One of the best-liked and most-respected players in American backgammon, Steve Sax has been a prominent member of the backgammon community for four decades. A renowned competitor with a superlative record of achievement, he is also known for giving generously of his time and expertise. His teaching, writing, analysis, photography, and commentary have benefited many players, and indeed, the USBGF itself. Whether joining an impromptu analysis session with experienced players, or giving a helpful tip to an unknown novice, his insightful comments, his good-natured personality, and his dry, wry, and mischievous wit, make him a favorite of all.

NOTABLE AWARDS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • He has been elected to the 32 Giants of Backgammon nine consecutive times, with a high ranking of #6. He won the American Backgammon Tour in 2002 and ranks fourth all-time on the ABT points list, having won ABT points in 19 of the last 22 years.
  • He has won fourteen Masters, six ABT, and two Vietor Cup titles (and was a finalist twelve times in these events). A six-time Gammon Associates Player of the Year, he holds a Grandmaster 2 ranking in the Backgammon Masters Awarding Body.
