Richard Munitz

Richard Munitz is a current member of the USBGF Board of Directors and serves on the USBGF Rules and Ethics Committee (former Chair) and the Ratings and Stats Committee (former Chair). He is the developer of the USBGF’s Online Tournament System (OTS). Richard has played competitive backgammon since the 1990’s, winning the American Backgammon Tour in 2006 and 2018. He is one of the top ranked players of all time on the ABT, having won 9 ABT events at the Open level. He has been ranked several times as a Giant of Backgammon. Richard was a founder of the USBGF in 2009 and was awarded the USBGF Lifetime Achievement award in 2022.

Richard lives in Suffern, New York with his wife Deborah and three children. He is one of the organizers of the NYC Backgammon club and gives free lessons at the club each month. Richard has spent his professional career developing financial and market data systems. He obtained a Masters degree from SUNY Stony Brook in Computer Science as well as a BS in both Computer Science and Mathematics. Other interests include racquetball, biking, skiing, and collecting beer bottles.
