Richard Munitz is a former member of the USBGF Board of Directors and Executive Committee, a former chair of the USBGF Ratings and Stats Committee, and former Chief Technology Officer. Richard has played competitive backgammon since the 1990’s but had his breakout year in 2006 — winning the American Backgammon Tour. He has finished in each of the top 4 places on the ABT between 2006 and 2010 and is ranked in the top 5 all-time on the ABT . He has been ranked several times by his fellow players as a Giant of Backgammon. Richard won 1st place in the 2006 Michigan Summer Championships and has won a total of 6 ABT Open level events. Other notable accomplishments include winning the 2007 Las Vegas Super Jackpot and a semi-final finish at the 2007 World Championships in Monte Carlo.
Richard lives in Suffern, New York with his wife Deborah and three children. He is one of the organizers of the NYC Backgammon club and gives free lessons at the club each month. Richard has spent his professional career developing financial and market data systems. He obtained a Masters degree from SUNY Stony Brook in Computer Science as well as a BS in both Computer Science and Mathematics. Other interests include racquetball, biking, skiing, and collecting beer bottles.
