A qualifier for both the Magriel Cup and the WBIF Online World Team Championship will be held on Saturday, September 7th. The registration fee is $20.

About the Magriel Cup and Online World Team Championships
The Magriel Cup is an annual online event in which the best players from the USA face off against the best players from the UK. This year, fourteen players will be on each team. It will be played on Saturday and Sunday, October 12th and 13th, on Backgammon Studio Heroes. Saturday will feature Doubles, DMP, and Speed. Sunday will be individual matches.
The World Internet Backgammon Federation’s Online World Team Championship is a team event, usually with teams from over 30 countries worldwide. It is played over many months, with one match per week for the first three rounds and then approximately one match every two weeks.
Six players will comprise the USA team.
Qualifiying Criteria
Qualifying format: Three eleven-point matches will be played on Saturday, September 7th. The times are 1 pm, 3:15 pm, and 5:30 pm Eastern time. The matches will be played on Backgammon Studio Heroes.
The Magriel Cup’s qualifying criteria will be announced when registration closes. It will be based on the number of open spots and the number of registrants. Several Grandmasters have already qualified and committed to play on the team, but six to eight spots should still be open to the qualifiers. Qualifying will be based on some combination of match record and performance rating (PR).
Qualifying for the USA team in the World Online Team Championship will focus more heavily on PR than the Magriel Cup.
There are not two separate qualifiers, only one, but the qualifying criteria will be different for the two teams: Magriel Cup and World Online Team.

About This Tournament:
The qualifier tournament will select the US team for the 2024 Magriel Cup and the 2024 WBIF Online World Team Championship. Registration will close at 11:59 PM Pacific Time on September 5th.
The 2024 WBIF Online World Team Championship will be hosted on WBIF.net and matches will be played on Backgammon Studio Heroes. Qualifying matches will also be played on Backgammon Studio Heroes. The qualifying team will play against dozens of other countries for the chance to become the 2024 World Online Team Champions.
Tournament format and qualifying rules will be determined once the number of participating players is known.
You must be available to play up to three rounds of matches on a single day – September 7th.
There is a $20 entry fee to cover entry fees, awards, etc. Based on the number of entrants, any surplus funds after expenses will be donated to the USBGF.
