2025-26 Selection Criteria for Women’s Team Competitions

Learn what you need to do to qualify.
Women of Backgammon Qualification - 1

Updated December 02, 2025

We’re excited to share updates to the selection criteria for the Women’s Teams that represent the USBGF in both online and in-person international competitions. Our goal is to provide a clear, consistent, and fair pathway for players, increase awareness of upcoming events, and help you understand how to qualify.

The following events are upcoming:

August 25–31, 2026 – WBGF Women’s Team Championship in the United Kingdom (in-person)

Eligibility Overview

Online Teams:

  • USBGF membership.
  • U.S. citizenship or residency.
  • Must have played in at least 6 Online Tournament Series (OTS) events in 2025.

In-Person Teams:

  • USBGF membership.
  • U.S. citizenship or residency.
  • Active Open Division play for at least six months prior to selection.
  • Must have played in at least 3 ABT tournaments in the year prior to selection.

Online Team Selection

Selections prioritize measurable performance and follow this order each year:

• Top 2 finishers from the prior year’s OTS
• Top 2 finishers from the WBIF World Women’s Championship Finals (excluding already-qualified players)
• Top 2 WBIF all-time PRs

For an 8-player format, two additional spots may be awarded via a qualifier.

In-Person Team Selection

The in-person team consists of six players, including one alternate. Invitations will go to the top five players based on BMAB Performance Rating as of January 1 each year. This fixed annual selection date ensures consistency and minimizes ambiguity. The sixth spot is reserved for an alternate, selected in order of BMAB PR.

We believe these refinements create a transparent, performance-driven structure that supports player development and strengthens our competitive presence internationally. We’ll continue to assess and improve the process as we go.

If you have any questions or feedback, we’d love to hear from you.
