Playing backgammon requires one to occasionally consider counterintuitive options. That’s not a problem, it’s a defining characteristic of any great game. A successful analysis may bridge a gap that was invisible to you before that moment, making that act a triumph greater than merely finding the right play.

Mike will show us positions that will challenge our ability to rely on habit to produce a game plan or to trust a nimble imagination to find alternatives. Sometimes such items hide in plain sight.

Mike Corbett has spent his fortunate life in the company of stimulating people in extraordinary situations. Along with Laughter of the Damned (a satirical sendup of heaven and hell) and Mr. Nachron’s List (a blend of romance, history and science fiction), he has written tactical books on poker and backgammon. Corbett is fascinated by the wavering border between reality and fantasy, and he is a master of the transition from observation to interpretation.
