The U.S. Backgammon Federation is pleased to announce that John O’Hagan and Art Benjamin will be inducted into the American Backgammon Hall of Fame at the 2022 USBGF Awards Dinner. The Awards Dinner will be held on Saturday, June 11, at the 44th Los Angeles Open.

The American Backgammon Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have achieved extraordinary playing results and/or have made extraordinary contributions to American backgammon. Their body of work must have taken place over a long career that runs many decades, as players, directors, authors, publishers, organizers, teachers, and/or innovators.

Aside from his performance at dozens of tournaments and his many accomplishments outside of the tournament room, John O’Hagan is currently a Grandmaster 2 in the BMAB. His current P.R. average is 3.70, the 7th highest among US players. John has been a Giant of Backgammon every year since 2005. He ranks number 6 in ABT Lifetime Points. As an author, John is a frequent contributor to PrimeTime Backgammon Magazine. He has been a finalist in Monte Carlo, and O’Hagan’s Law of doubling is in every top player’s toolkit.

Art Benjamin is one of the most recognized and popular players in American backgammon. Art is ranked as a Master 1 in the BMAB. He won the ABT Online! in its inaugural 2020 season. Art is a professor of mathematics, and he generously shares his mathematical insights in his popular lectures at tournaments. In his column for PrimeTime Backgammon Magazine, called Math Overboard, Art writes about fundamental concepts, including how to optimally use the doubling cube, racing, and over the board shortcuts to help players of all skill levels.

It must be emphasized that aside from their substantial achievements, John and Art are role models in the backgammon community. Both are renowned for their decorum across the board and their approachability to players of every skill level.

Congratulations to John and Art for their well deserved recognition as leaders in our community. We hope that you will join us in Los Angeles and help us celebrate the induction of these two fine players.
