What is the Magriel Cup?
The Magriel Cup is an annual, team-based backgammon competition held online between the United Kingdom Backgammon Federation (UKBGF) and the United States Backgammon Federation (USBGF). It is named in honor of Paul Magriel, a legendary backgammon player, author, and commentator.
The event typically features multiple formats, including Doubles, DMP (Double Match Point), and Individual matches, with players from both teams competing for the overall cup. The tournament is generally played over two days and utilizes the Heroes backgammon platform.

Date/Time: The event comprises a mix of formats. Starting at 1 PM EST. time on Saturday November 15th. On Sunday evening from 1 PM EST. there will be two rounds of 11-point singles matches.

Round 1: Doubles – Saturday 1 PM EST / 10.00am PST (USA)
Round 2: DMP Best of 5 – Saturday 3:30 PM EST / 12.30pm PST (USA)
Round 3: Speedgammon – Saturday 4:45 PM EST / 1.45pm PST (USA)
Round 4: Singles Rd 1 – Sunday 2:00 PM EST / 11.00am PST (USA)
Round 5: Singles Rd 2 – Sunday 4:15 PM EST / 1.15pm PST (USA)
The scoring mechanism is two points for a match win and one point for a PR win. For the latter, the matches are analyzed on XG (eXtremeGammon) and in each case the player (or doubles pair) with the lower PR is awarded the point. The first team to reach 88 points wins.
