Grant Hoffman recommends: 8/2 6/4

Putting a 9th checker on the 6 point just seems too rich for me. As it is, any 5 we roll until we clear the 6 point, forces us to play 6/1. If we roll two 4’s before we clear the 6 point, then any 4 will have to be played 6/2. Combine bad 4’s with the already bad 5’s, then we are really giving ourselves future problems by playing the two 8/6.

We should be aiming to have an even as possible spread of checkers on the 6, 5 and 4 points. Here we cannot put any checkers on the 5 point but we can play 6/4 giving us three 4’s before we are forced to play 6/2 with any more 4’s.

So 8/2 6/4 is my recommendation.

Neil Kazaross plays 13/8 7/5.

I still need to diversify and get the most out of big doubles. 13/8 7/5 looks to be slightly best.

  1. Mary Hickey says:

6/3 to unstack and then 2/off. The distribution here is weird, but I can’t imagine it being weird enough to justify noodling checkers around rather than just removing one. There’s also a stack on the 2 that wants to be unstacked, after all.
