At its annual organizational meeting on January 26, 2017, the U.S. Backgammon Federation Board of Directors elected the following officers for 2017: Joseph Russell, Chairman; Karen Davis, President and Executive Director; Dorn Bishop, Vice-Chairman and Secretary; and Bill Riles, Treasurer. In assuming office as Chairman, Joe Russell thanked Bill Riles for his three years of service as President and Executive Director, noting the growth in membership over his tenure, the acquisition of the American Backgammon Tour, and the launch in 2015 of the American Backgammon Hall of Fame. In addition to his duties as Treasurer, Mr. Riles will direct the USBGF-ABT integration effort.
Joe Russell is well-known and highly regarded in the backgammon community both nationally and internationally. He won the World Backgammon Championship in 1989, and was finalist in 2016. He is praised not only for his exceptional talent over the board, but for his generosity of spirit, sound judgment, and creativity. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors since the founding of the U. S. Backgammon Federation in 2009.
In electing Karen Davis as President and Executive Director, Mr. Russell noted that the USBGF is in the hands of an exceptional leader with two decades prior experience heading a major philanthropy. She has been a driving force behind the evolution of the USBGF serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2010 and well-known to the membership and the backgammon community for her leadership, inclusiveness, and integrity.
Regards and best wishes,
President and Executive Director
U.S. Backgammon Federation
