Rules and Ethics

The Rules and Ethics Committee has adopted a Mission Statement as follows:

“To provide guidelines to the backgammon community to help define and promote good sportsmanship and fair play at all levels and in all venues.”

In this regard we are looking carefully at the rules, working with other Federations all over the world to come up with a universal set of rules that is well-written, and we are working on a Guide to the Rules to provide tournament directors and players better insight into the intent and application of the rules.

Relative to Ethics, we are producing a Standards of Ethical Practice to offer guidelines for appropriate behavior and good sportsmanship so that we can all enjoy backgammon in the most positive way, and to help promote backgammon to the community in the most positive manner.

The Committee will also provide a venue to bring problems or complaints in the hope that they can be worked out in a positive manner, without airing “dirty laundry” in public, and without publicly damaging the fine name and reputation of our game or the people involved in the game.
